Birrieria Tlaquepaque is a down-to-earth Mexican restaurant located on East Florence Avenue in South Los Angeles, serving up traditional birria with a strong focus on goat meat, staying true to its roots in Jalisco. This spot caters to those who appreciate an authentic, hearty meal in a no-frills environment where food is the star.

The interior is straightforward and modest, attracting a steady stream of locals, especially on weekends when the place gets lively and parking can fill up quickly. If you plan to come during the weekend rush, arriving early is a smart move to secure a table without much wait. Inside, the atmosphere has the casual buzz of a neighborhood joint where regulars gather for comfort food that hits just right on a rainy afternoon or after a long day.

The menu centers on rich, slow-cooked meat dishes like the Birria De Chivo Costilla (goat ribs) and Birria Con Chamorro, offering tender, flavorful meat that melts in your mouth. Homemade tortillas, beans, and traditional sides such as pozole and sope round out the experience, making it a well-rounded meal. Patrons appreciate the genuine care in preparation—the birria broth is deeply spiced, perfect when paired with the sharp, spicy red salsa that locals seem to favor.

For those who enjoy ordering a variety, soft shell tacos with beef, chicken, or beef head are budget-friendly and filling options on the menu. They also offer traditional desserts like rice pudding if you want a sweet finish to balance the bold flavors.

While the restaurant performs well on food and authenticity, parking can be a challenge due to limited space, although some visitors mention valet as a convenient option for peace of mind. Service tends to be friendly and helpful, with staff ready to guide newcomers through the menu and help choose dishes.

This is an ideal stop for birria enthusiasts and anyone curious about Jalisco’s culinary traditions who appreciate a lively, straightforward eatery where the food’s authenticity is clearly celebrated. Whether it’s a casual weekend lunch or a midweek craving for slow-cooked goat birria, Birrieria Tlaquepaque offers a down-home taste of a regional specialty in a setting that prioritizes flavor and tradition over fancy decor.

This place is really popular in the weekends so be here early. The parking lot is somewhat small. Aside from that the food is delicious and the natural juice is outstanding.

Guadalajara has one of the best birria. Jalisco was where birria originated... By the way, no matter what people say, birria is by its definition is made with goat meat. NO COW!!!! THAT'S NOT BIRRIA... Today, I stopped by birrieria Tlaquepaque. Tlaquepaque is located within the Guadalajara metropolitan area. So I was to a good start. The waitress was friendly and she helped me decide what the best selection was. I was there for the birria, so that's what I had. In one of the reviews I read, it said that their agua de horchata was great. To my surprise, it wasn't homemade, but bottled in a plastic bottle, which was disappointing. As a free entrée, they served refried beans with refried tortilla chips. The beans tasted delicious like my grandma used to make. Then the birria arrived. The consome tasted a bit light, but it was good. The carne maciza was delicious with the added cilindro, chop white onios, and salsa, all this paired with the just made corn tortillas. It was a simphony of flavors coming together in my mouth. A reminder of times gone by. Please come and enjoy the birria in this restaurant. Keeping this Mexican tradition a life and we'll. Light and love to everyone.

BEST IN TOWN- I have tried many birrias in my life here in Cali and Mexico. The winner has been found and I'll tell you why. The goat is roasted to perfection. So you have these delicious bites of tender with a consume that breaths rich in flavor. Tortillas homemade, beans better than your mom's.

Top quality food at a reasonable price. The goat meat is delicious. No after taste. Soft and tender. They give you beans and chips if you dine inside. They also have free valet parking so you're vehicle is secure. Best spot in Southern California for goat birria. You need to try it. Worth it.

Excellent! Great prices for a birria that's completely off the hook. Very simple and straightforward menu but each item has specific taste. I went there at 7am and by 8 the place was bumping. Tepache was really good and the rest of their aguas frescas looked refreshing. The portions were good and the service was very attentive. ADA capacity and amenities were available.
